You can't beat bitumen paint for durability and weatherproofing, but who wants everything blackish-brown!

This is really telling - and encouraging, at least to me. It shows that the tried and true methods are still the most popular, at least among the voter for this poll. I'm still not sold on the modern water finishes - I've had some experience with them, and they never seem to get there without issues of one sort or another.
Bitumen paint aside...
you could use the rankings in this poll to assign my favorites, almost in perfect order.
